WELCOME TO THE SOKS HEALTHY FAMILIES TEAM!
* A recent projection (found in USA Today) warns that 42% of Americans may end up obese by 2030 (up from 36% in 2010). Experts from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that medical related costs of obesity may be as high as $147 billion a year.
Tools to Help you and your Family Develop Heathy Lifestyles
- TRAIN @ Home - provides athletes and their families with easy-to-understand information on proper exercise and nutrition habits. A nutrition booklet contains an overview of healthy nutrition, sample menus, grocery store lists, healthy snacking, and other nutritional resources. An exercise booklet includes an overview of healthy exercise, stretching information, fitness outlines, and activities for the seven sports skills. It is not necessary to complete the TRAIN Assessment to take advantage of the TRAIN @ Home program materials. Download the tools to start working on a healthy lifestyle now.
Special Olympics Kansas will introduce the TRAIN Assessment Program to teams in the coming year. The assessment is designed to determine the fitness level of individual athletes, their strengths and the sports most suited to them.
