As a volunteer-driven organization, we rely on dedicated volunteers of all ages to assist in many aspects of the program.  Each year, 20,000 dedicated volunteers in Kansas share their time and enthusiasm to provide quality sports programs for all individuals with intellectual disabilities.  

Sports Training & Competition

Local Program Coordinator: oversee all aspects of a local program (team). Includes athlete training, volunteers, fundraising etc.

Coach: work directly with the athletes to encourage, support and train them for sporting competitions

Assistant Coach: assist the Head Coach in all duties

Training Clinic: host a one or two day training clinic for athletes in the sport of your choice

Unified PartnerŪ: train and compete on a SOKS team comprised of intellectually disabled and non-intellectually disabled athletes

Special Events

Day of Event: help with meals, awards, staging, registration, officiating, time keeping, escort, set-up/clean-up

Games Management Team: serve on the event committee to plan, develop and implement all aspects of the games

Healthy Athletes: trained medical and dental personnel and students provide health screenings and education

Law Enforcement Torch Run: Participate in your local Torch Run and support the athletes in your community

Office Support: help with general office duties such as data entry, filing and development activities

Become a Certified Coach

Coaches and Assistant Coaches play a unique and indispensable role in Special Olympics Kansas. Coaches provide the sports skills and spirit that define a true athlete and serve as role models and character builders. Click here for more information on becoming a coach!
