World Games


The World Games are flagship events for the Special Olympics Movement. They take place every two years and alternate between Summer and Winter Games.
   

World Games 2015


Los Angeles, California

July 25 - August 2, 2015

The 14th Special Olympics World Summer Games will open on 25 July 2015 in  Los Angeles, California. The Games will feature competitions in aquatics, gymnastics, track and field, basketball, football (soccer) and many other summer sports. 

With 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches representing 177 countries, along with 30,000 volunteers and an anticipated 500,000 spectators, the 2015 Special Olympics World Games - will be the largest sports and humanitarian event anywhere in the world this year.  With competition in 25 Olympic-type sports the games are a world stage for our athletes to demonstrate on the playing field their courage, determination and spirit of sportsmanship.

COACHES  Coach Sid Kanter (Leawood) will accompany Team USA as the Head Tennis Coach and Coach John Lair (Pittsburg) will accompany Team USA as Assistant Powerlifting Coach.

LETR - Det. Kristi Powell, Topeka Police Dept. will represent Kansas in the Final Leg.
Athlete Cody Pierce of New Hope of Pittsburg will be one of 10 U.S. athletes running in the Final Leg.
